Nutella and Banana Pizza: Easy Peasy

5.0 from 1 vote

I discovered this amazing dessert pizza during a trip to Italy, where pizzerias serve these sweet treats alongside their savory counterparts. The combination of crispy, golden dough with warm, melted Nutella and caramelized banana slices creates pure magic.

What makes this recipe special is how the bananas become slightly caramelized in the oven, their natural sweetness intensifying and creating the perfect contrast to the rich chocolate-hazelnut spread. The pizza dough gets wonderfully crispy on the bottom while staying tender on top.

This dessert pizza is incredibly versatile – you can add chopped hazelnuts for extra crunch, a drizzle of honey for more sweetness, or even a sprinkle of sea salt for a gourmet touch. It’s perfect for casual dinner parties, kids’ birthdays, or whenever you want something indulgent but not too complicated.

The best part? You can use store-bought pizza dough to save time, making this an accessible treat that anyone can master. Just make sure to let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing – the Nutella will be molten hot straight from the oven!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb 1 pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)

  • 1/2 1/2 cup Nutella

  • 2 2 large ripe bananas

  • 2 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 2 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

  • 1/4 1/4 cup chopped hazelnuts (optional)

  • 1 1 pinch of sea salt

Directions

  • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
  • Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to form a 12-inch circle. Transfer to a pizza pan or parchment paper.
  • Brush the dough lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt.
  • Bake the plain dough for 8-10 minutes until it’s golden and crispy but not fully cooked.
  • Meanwhile, slice the bananas into 1/4-inch rounds.
  • Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately spread the Nutella evenly over the surface while the dough is still hot.
  • Arrange the banana slices on top of the melted Nutella, slightly overlapping them.
  • Return to the oven for 2-3 minutes just to warm the bananas and finish cooking the dough.
  • Remove from oven, sprinkle with chopped hazelnuts if using, and dust with powdered sugar.
  • Let cool for 2-3 minutes before slicing into wedges and serving immediately.

📝 Notes

This pizza is best served immediately while the Nutella is still warm and gooey. Leftover slices can be reheated in a toaster oven for 1-2 minutes to restore the crispy texture.

💡 Chef’s Tips

Make sure your bananas are ripe but still firm – overripe bananas will become mushy. You can warm the Nutella slightly in the microwave for easier spreading. For extra indulgence, drizzle with honey or add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.

🔄 Variations

  • Strawberry version of Nutella Pizza: Replace bananas with sliced fresh strawberries
  • Nutty delight Nutella Pizza: Add sliced almonds, chopped walnuts, or toasted coconut flakes
  • Gourmet touch Nutella Pizza: Drizzle with honey and add a sprinkle of cinnamon
